Accidental Aviator Painting Gifted to WPHS
Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative, Inc. has generously donated a captivating painting titled "Accidental Aviator" to the West Plains High School. This meaningful artwork, created by Lieutenant Stephen Thompson, a 1913 Zizzer alumnus, holds a special place in our history. It commemorates the unexpected journey of a Zizzer graduate who, through an unplanned flight during a French raid, became the first U.S. military member to down an enemy aircraft. This remarkable feat, though not officially recognized for many years, is a testament to the bravery and dedication of our alums. The painting will be proudly displayed in the school's halls as a vivid reminder of sacrifice and service to the nation and our community.
