Preschool & Kindergarten Screenings

The West Plains R-VII School District is committed to ensuring every child is ready for kindergarten and beyond. We are focused on innovative ways to support families and provide high-quality early learning opportunities for our four and five year olds, building a strong foundation before and during the kindergarten year. Research consistently shows that early investment in education delivers lasting benefits, helping children develop the academic, cognitive, social, emotional, and language skills they need to thrive in kindergarten and continue succeeding in the years ahead.

- Please bring the following to your child’s screening:
- Birth Certificate
- Immunization Records
- Proof of Residency

- Preschool Screenings

Preschool Opportunities for the 2026-2027 school year:
- West Plains Elementary: Three full-day preschool classes.
- South Fork Elementary: One full-day preschool class.
- Screenings for both West Plains Elementary and South Fork Elementary will take place at the West Plains Civic Center.
- Appointments are required and available for any child in the district turning four by August 1, 2026.
- Thursday, April 9: 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
- Friday, April 10: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

- Kindergarten Screenings
- Kindergarten screenings are open to children in the district who will turn five by August 1, 2026, and will be held at the West Plains Civic Center. During their scheduled appointment, children will meet the kindergarten team and take part in fun, age-appropriate activities designed to assess motor, language, and conceptual skills. Each appointment will also include our Preschool & Kindergarten Signing Day, a special celebration where future Zizzers and their families mark the start of their educational journey as children “sign” their commitment to learning, enjoy photo opportunities, and receive fun school swag.
- Wednesday, April 8: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
- Thursday, April 9: 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

- On-Site Immunizations
- The Howell County Health Department will be at the Civic Center and available to provide immunizations during the screenings.
