Speech and Debate
is an academic sport that students compete in all year long. Practice begins in August with the first tournament in October. The team travels to 10 regular season tournaments between October and March. Then we compete at two district tournaments; one for State and one for Nationals. The State tournament is in April and the National Tournament is in June. The team also competes in two Congressional Tournaments in April. Their are Seventeen different Speech and Debate events that students can compete in at tournaments. There are four styles of debate: Lincoln Douglas, Public Forum, Policy, and Congressional Debate. There are thirteen indvidual events: Duo/Duet Acting, Humurous Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation, Prose, Poetry, Program of Oral Interpretation, Storytelling, Radio, United Stated Extemporaneous Speaking, International Extemporaneous Speaking, Original Oratory, and Informative Oratory.
Zizzer Dramatics Theatre Company
performs four productions a year. The productions are the Fall Musical, the Spring Play, a One-Act, and a Reader's Theatre performance. Students can either be a performer or work on the technical side as a crew member in the various crews. Rehearsl begins in August for the Fall Musical and the performance is the second weekend of November. The One-Act and Readers Theatre begin in November and the performance is at districts in early March. If the performances win districts, they advance to State in April. Rehearsal for the Spring Play begin in January and the performance is the Second weekend of April.
*Both programs are rigurous and require a lot of dedication, however they are rewarding programs to be involved in.
