Welcome to the West Plains School District located in south central Missouri, approximately 100 miles southeast of Springfield, Missouri, with an enrollment of approximately 2,700 students attending 6 schools K-12. The district provides tremendous opportunities for students ranging from science, technology, engineering and mathematics, Career and Technical Education, music, the arts, athletics, extracurricular activities, and much more.
The school district is made up primarily of one high school (WPHS), one middle school (WPMS), and two elementary schools (South Fork Elementary and West Plains Elementary). A career center( SCCC ) provides a quality technical education for secondary and adult learners.West Plains, Missouri, is centrally located in the Missouri Ozarks region, which includes Norfork Lake, North Fork River, Bull Shoals Lake, Jack's Fork River, Current River, and more. Residents describe West Plains with such phrases as "Heart of the Ozarks," "surrounded by the Mark Twain National Forest," "good fishing and canoeing on clear streams," good quail, deer, and turkey hunting." West Plains, Missouri, and the Missouri Ozarks have about everything. The school district is contained within Howell County boundaries. The district is considered progressive in its rural setting, which includes forested countryside and spring-fed rivers. The Ozark Mountain Range lends a spectacularly scenic backdrop to the lush green trees and is admired by all who are fortunate enough to live here.

DISTRICT ACCREDITATIONThe district is fully accredited by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education through the Missouri School Improvement Program. West Plains High School is an A+ school accredited by the North Central Association.OUR SCHOOLSWest Plains Schools has been honored by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for Distinction in Performance.The district employs over 425 people, with 250 of those as classroom teachers. Our teachers have an average of 10.2 years of experience, and over 43% have their Master's Degree or higher. The ratio of students to classroom teachers is 19:1.
OUR COMMUNITYWest Plains Schools is located in Howell County in beautiful South Central Missouri and has a population of approximately 12,000. The largest employers in the community are Ozarks Healthcare, Armstrong Wood Products, DRS Technologies, West Plains Schools, Wal-Mart SuperCenter, Caterpillar Inc., and Air Med Care Network.
