ZIZZER (Zizzer) n. 1. An expert in any activity - adjective. (colloq) FIRST RATE; 2. A person of the highest caliber, ability or reputation. 3. One who is victorious; (synonym) A WINNER! "Seekers of excellence," and "knowledgeable professionals," these are phrases I have heard to describe the people that you will find when you visit a West Plains R-VII school. Another phrase that has been used to describe those involved in educating our children is, "dedicated professionals who care about kids." These phrases very appropriately describe the group of people working together to maximize educational opportunities for our students while creating productive citizens. When you walk into the boardroom located in the West Plains R-VII Administration Building, you will find this phrase proudly and permanently emblazoned on the wall proclaiming the clear and succinct mission of the R-VII school board. This is a mission that does not just decorate a wall but is on the hearts of these devoted individuals as they make decisions for the betterment of our students. At West Plains, you will witness a "Zizzer" of a school board, where the central focus in on student and staff performance data. This is a high performing district that has a strong sense of service to community, student-focus, and a clear sense of direction. The West Plains R-VII School District offers a pre-school through high school/adult education program comprised of two elementary schools, one middle school, one comprehensive high school and career education center. Our 2,500 plus students come to us from diverse socio-economic backgrounds- a fact that we welcome and embrace. We strive to accomplish this important work by: Ø Attracting and retaining high quality staff, Ø Taking advantage of our unique natural resources, Ø Forging important partnerships with other agencies and organizations, and Ø Engaging our entire community in providing a rich and challenging curriculum in a safe and nurturing environment. No matter what our role is in this great process (i.e. teacher, paraprofessional, cook, custodian, bus-driver, e.t.c.), as educators we are keenly aware of the responsibility and accountability that we accept to prepare the next generation of citizens to lead our society. That's why it is vitally important to keep staff members, students, families and the community informed about the progress we're making, district-wide and school by school throughout the West Plains R-VII School District. |
